I did take up this film as I would be doing action for the first time. I must say that doing Chandani Chawk To China is very exciting. I wish I could say more about it. But as its release date is yet to be finalized I can't reveal anything more at this stage." It can be recalled that the film was earlier known as Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo and also Made in China . Reportedly, it is a semi- autobiographical film on its lead actor, Akshay Kumar's life, about a chef who is mistaken to be a martial arts expert. Sneha Ullal, who shot to fame a few years ago with her strong resemblances to Aishwarya Rai, made her debut into the film industry opposite Salman Khan in the film Lucky. Shooting of Ram Charan Teja’s second film, directed by S.S. Rajamouli and produced by Allu Aravind in association with B.V.S.N. Prasad under Gita Arts banner is progressing well in and around Hyderabad. It is learnt that some action and chase scenes are being shot now.

The director has decided to choreograph a remix song, 'Bangaru Kodipetta…' of Chiranjeevi's blockbuster Gharana Mogudu in this movie. The original song was choreographed at Visakhapatnam Port; the same is going to be the venue for the latest song as well, involving Ram Charan and Mumaith Khan. The film unit would leave for Visakhapatnam very soon.

Samudra is directing and producing Mallepuvvu with Bhumika in the lead for Samudra Silver Screen banner. Murali Krishna is making debut as hero in this film. Production of the film is almost done except for one song. Ramesh Varma prepared the story for the film and an NRI Mohan Vadlapatla is also producing the film.

We wanted to make this film with a new hero and hence we started the search. Finally, we zeroed on Muralikrishna. When we approached Bhumika for the role, she asked for the Hindi rights of the film. Also, music director Ilayaraja wanted to do this in Tamil. Ilayaraja put his heart in this film. He is very impressed with the story. He even sang a song in this film. Also, another interesting fact is that Bhumika is dubbing her own voice for this film. Audio of this film will release on either 18th or 22nd of this month. Aditya audio company grabbed the audio rights of the film. Movie will release in August or September.

After the blockbuster Sivaji, when the whole industry was abuzz with talks about the film's impressive theme and the treatment, Superstar Rajinikanth accepted his friend Sreenivasan's invitation and attended a special screening of the Malayalam movie Katha Parayumbol. Absolutely impressed with the theme, Rajni wanted to take up the Tamil remake and was willing to act in the role of the Mammootty in the original. Without further delay, he called Sreenivasan and from that moment, the project began to take shape. Titled Kuselan in Tamil and Kucheludu in Telugu, later renamed Kathanayakudu, Rajni chose the experienced and wise P. Vasu as the director of the remake. K. Balachander's Kavithalaya took over the production. Needless to say, Rajinikanth's presence in the project galvanized the whole team into swift activity.

Though a remake, the plot has been modified suitably to suit the tastes of the Tamil and Telugu audiences. It is also understood changes have been made to amplify and expand the role of the Superstar; as a result, Rajni appears in over 50% of the film, though he is not the hero.

The theme of the film is simple: Balan (Pasupathy) is a barber who lives a hand-to-mouth existence in his village with his wife Sreedevi (Meena) and three children. A secret love affair, elopement, subsequent marriage, fatherhood and poverty have pushed the barber to the brink and he is absolutely vanquished by the crushing weight of his failure to fulfil his responsibilities. And Balan is a man who just cannot dupe, lie, or commit fraud. So without knowing any means to make extra money, Balan struggles to cope with life and demands of the family. Each and every day poses a mighty challenge to him; there is no money to pay the children's school fees, absolutely no money for everyday expenses, food and clothing. As if all these are not sufficient to stir trouble, his business also goes through a dull period. Deprived of caring friends and relatives on whom he can rely for help and support, Balan struggles through life daily, getting on with the business of living, trying to make sense of life, trying to do his job, to keep his wife and children fed and clothed.

At this critical juncture, Balan comes to know that Superstar Ashokraj (Rajinikanth) is visiting the village in connection with the shoot of his latest film. As soon as he receives news about the shooting, an enthusiastic Balan reveals the precious piece of information that - Ashok is his childhood friend. Coming to know about the connection, Balan's wife and children yell with joy as if they have won the lottery overnight. Also, armed with the foresight and thoughtfulness of a dutiful mother, Sreedevi urges her husband to extract maximum advantage of the connection. Balan, a man of great self-esteem and individuality, is taken aback by the shrewd suggestion. Though he and Ashok had enjoyed a good friendship, he does not want to temper the purity of the first meeting after all these years by asking for a personal favour. Needless to say, Balan is also awed by Ashok's Superstar airs and is not sure whether he would even recognize the poor barber. So what happens next? Do Ashok and Balan meet? Does Ashok agree to help them out? Does he fulfil Sreedevi's expectations, showering fortune on them? HYDERABAD: “We are ready for the elections whenever they are held,” said K. Nagendra Babu, about the political party being launched by his film star-brother K. Chiranjeevi next month.

Mr. Nagababu, as he is known, did not agree with the suggestion that the timeframe between the party’s launch (likely in August) and the elections was too short to gear up the cadre. “Lakhs of film fans and supporters of my brother are already working behind the screen,” the actor said in response to a question about the categorical announcement of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy that the general elections would be held after March 2009.

He dismissed with disdain the opinions expressed in certain quarters that there was no political vacuum for the megastar to fill as in 1982 when N. T. Rama Rao launched the Telugu Desam Party and rode to power, all in nine months. “Only journalists, intellectuals, critics and some political leaders are of this view.

We will prove them wrong,” he said in an interview on the sets of the Telugu film “Sarkar” directed by Kodi Ramakrishna, even as several aspirants from Kurnool looking for a role in the new political set up waited for an audience.

Mr. Nagababu, who is a key member of Chiranjeevi’s core team handling ‘public response’, justified it by saying people badly wanted a change. “I have visited every district, except Nellore and Nizamabad. The attendance and reaction at my meetings, especially from youth and women, were overwhelming though I am not a star myself. It clearly reveals that people are anxiously waiting to hear my brother speak.”
Draft policies

The burly actor said Mr. Chiranjeevi was devoting considerable time and energy to the party’s draft policies and on the logistics of setting the new party rolling. Asked what the party had to offer to people, he quipped, “good governance” which meant different things to different sections. Mr. Nagababu declined to spell out his party’s stand on Telangana, the support he expected from the backward class community and on the date of the party’s launch, saying they were ready with policies. But, these would be announced by ‘anna’ (elder brother) as he alone was “big enough” to speak.

V.B.Rajendra Prasad launched the audio of Kathanayakudu while K.Balachander released the audio of Kuchelan (Tamil version).

Talking about the audio and the film, Rajani Kanth said, ‘Aswini Dutt is one producer who does not know the word compromise. You ask him for something, he will arrange it in seconds. For example, if you ask him for Sri Lanka, he would immediately try and will come back with an answer saying we will bring it as soon as the LTTE problem is cleared. This film is based on Malayalam film Katha Parayampol. I followed the advice of my guru Balachander to not miss any good subject that comes my way. As soon as P.Vasu made me watch the film, I decided I will do it. The film is wrapped up in 83 days for both Telugu and Tamil languages. It is because of P.Vasu, the film is wrapped up so quickly. He not only is the director of the film but supervised all departments including production’.

Talking about the music, Rajani Kanth added, ‘G.V.Prakash is talented. I would say Prakash is a combination of Ilayaraja and Rehman’.

Rajani Kanth further added that he is now taking good care of his health. In fact, he is following a strict diet by avoiding rice, sugar, salt, tablets, ghee etc. And then he announced that he would give out part of his remuneration for every film to the technicians who worked for the film. And this trend he is starting with Kathanayakudu.

Jagapati Babu started his talk with rhyming words. He said. ‘Telugu lo Jagapati, Tamil lo Pasupati. Iddharilonu Dalapati paina Sabhapati. Producer karodpathi. Prekashakulaku idhi oka andhamaina bahumathi’. He further added, ‘This is a wonderful and unique experience for me. The very first shot we acted together is a scene where he had to slap me. He really slapped me and I felt a kind of affectionate touch. This will remain as a sweet memory in my life. I sincerely thank Aswini Dutt who gave me Subhalagnam earlier and now Kathanayakudu’.

P.Vasu also announced that he is giving part of his remuneration to the technicians in the film. He went ahead and announced that Aswini Dutt, Vijay Kumar and Pushpa kandaswami will also donate give their share to the technicians. P.Vasu said that the film has a very strong story and is very inspiring.

Aswini Dutt said that his dream of producing a film with Rajani Kanth is fulfilled. Kathanayakudu is a film on friendship. Emphasizing this in the event, K.Balachander gave out the first CD to his friend Bharati Raja while Rajani Kanth gave the first CD to his friend Murali. Jagapati Babu called his friend Arjun and gave him a copy of the CD.

Makers are planning to release the film in the last week of July.

BCCI slaps notice on Harbhajan

Harbhajan Singh has been slapped with a show cause notice by the BCCI on Saturday, asking why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for allegedly slapping Sreesanth in Mohali.

Harbhajan has been asked to respond by Monday, BCCI Chief Administrative Officer Ratnakar Shetty said.

"At this point of time, we have issued a show cause notice. Harbhajan is a contracted player of BCCI.

"BCCI itself has a code of conduct for players. And BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah has issued a show cause notice and he has to respond by Monday," Shetty said.

Harbhajan, leading the Mumbai Indians, allegedly slapped Sreesanth of the Kings XI Punjab following some exchange of words shortly after their match in Mohali on Friday.

Sreesanth was walking around the stadium in tears as his teammates including skipper Yuvraj Singh tried to console him.

"The Board's disciplinary committee will look into the issue and decide according to the rules of the BCCI," said Shah.

Shetty did not want to speculate on what punishment the BCCI could take against the off-spinner who is the stand-in captain of Mumbai Indians with Sachin Tendulkar keeping out due to a groin injury.

"I can't say anything about what action will be taken against him. And I don't think we need to speculate on that. We will follow a proper procedure," he said.

After getting Harbhajan's explanation, the disciplinary committee will consider what action needs to be taken in accordance with the rules, he said.

New movie of NTR is launched today at Film Nagar Cultural Centre (FNCC), Hyderabad. Gudiwada MLA Kodali Venkateswara Rao (Nani) is the presenter, while it is produced by Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan and direction is by hotshot VV Vinayak. Nandamuri Balakrishna clapped the muhurt shot on NTR. SS Rajamouli switched on the camera. Ace director K. Raghavendra Rao rendered the first shot direction. Huge gathering fans of NTR and Balakrishna thronged the venue and shouted slogans in favor of them. A beeline of film industry elite graced the occasion and extended their best wishes to NTR. Speaking on this occasion, NTR said that it was new for him to get directed by VV Vinayak. "It was Vinay who gave me the first blockbuster Aadi. We both did Sambha also. I never feel like taking part in film shooting when working with Vinay. It will like a homely affair with friendly atmosphere everywhere. I am sure we are going to give a blockbuster." How’s your career shaping up?

I have had a bad year. Both Yogi and Munna didn’t do too well, though they have got good reviews. Having said that, it cannot be ignored that Munna made six crores in Nizam. Yogi did okay too. So, looking forward for future projects!
Both Yogi and Eeshwar bank heavily on the mother sentiment… Did you want it that way?

It is just coincidence. Even Munna and Chatrapati too have mother sentiment. We didn’t try to put in anything. It just happened.
One usually associates Prabhas with mass, action films. Are you game to trying different subjects like Aparichitudu?

In my case, I have already tried experimentation in Chakram and Pournami. But they failed at the box-office. So, now I stick to good old mass films.
What do you look for before signing a film?

First, it has to be the storyline. Then, of course, it would be my role. If the role excites me, then I look out for the director and banner.
Action flicks apart, what kind of films do you personally like doing?

I love romantic subjects. Gitanjali is among my favourite films. Then come the action films. Sentiment films are surely not in the top slot.
Looking back, which is your favourite among your films?

Definitely Chatrapati. The audiences too have liked it.
There is intense competition in the industry these days. How do you deal with this?

By being smart and trying to make the right choices. That you have to put in lots of hard work goes without saying. It is equally important to try variations in characters and characterization.
Krishnam Raju is known for his historicals. Do you have any intentions of trying your hand at historicals or mythologies?

Yes, but after four years or so. I surely would love to try doing some good subjects. In fact, Bhakta Kannappa, which stars my uncle Krishnam Raju in the title role is among my favourite films. Incidentally, it was directed by Bapu garu, which is another highlight. I would love to do a similar role.

You are shooting with Pawan Kalyan for Jalsa. Finally, is that the title of the film, or is it still a tentative title?

I have the lead role in the film. It is with Pawan Kalyan, so it is coming out good. It is not called Jalsa or anything yet. It is still very tentative.
A li’l something about your role. We have heard there are other girls in the film apart from you…

There is Kamilini and there is Parvati Melton. I wouldn’t talk about my role. But it’s different. Much different from all the other roles I have done.
Tell us about the film…

I can’t talk about the story at all. I will keep mum for now. It will be really very different from what I am, totally different from the image I have on screen. It is a huge comedy flick and a complete entertainer.
When will you start shooting for Vijayabhaskar’s film?

We will be starting Vijayabhaskar’s film in November, in the first week most probably.
What other films have you signed in Telugu and in Bollywood?

So far I am doing a film with Pawan, which will be over soon. Then, I have a film with Tarun which will be starting soon. I have also signed a Bollywood film.
Can you elaborate on the Hindi film…

I am doing a film with Shiny Ahuja. Indrajit Lankesh will be directing it. That’s also a good flick or so I hope.
How would you describe your Bollywood debut film?

It is a very stylish kind of a film. They are using the best of the people to work on the film. My fingers are crossed. I am hoping for the best. Also, I will be seen opposite Shiney, so it should be a good experience.
Are you happy getting the break, after all the hype?

Of course. But Bollywood is not a big deal for me. Yes, the exposure is good, fame is all very good. However, it all depends on the script and the film. If I get better roles in Telugu, then I will do Telugu films. On the other hand, if I get nicer roles in Hindi, then I will do more Bollywood films. Or do both maybe.
What about all those rumours about you being cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan?

I am not doing a film with Salman or with Shah Rukh Khan. I have never even met them and that I hope answers it.
It is rumoured that you are the most highly paid actress in the industry today. How does it feel?

I have so many people coming up to me and asking the same question. It feels good. Maybe it puts you on a new pedestal. But what matters to me is the respect I get, from the people and my producers, irrespective of what I get.

A successful Malayalam film 'Kasturimaan' in which Meera Jasmine played the lead role is being dubbed into Telugu as 'Nindu Manasulu', by Y Sreem on the banner of Power Movies.

The producer says, 'The performance of Meera Jasmine would remain an asset for the flick. Hero Jayasurya is the son of a zamindar who was in deep debt trap. However, he had a wish to study IAS and serve the country. Meera Jasmine helps him financially. Hero's family members believe that she was from a rich family. Jayasurya and Meera fall in love with each others and they face a serious and tough task in the process. How they overcome that problem is the subject. We are making efforts to release the film on May 1.'

Cochin Haneefa, Punith, Tilakan are in the lead roles.

Joel Silver Talks "Wonder Woman"

Producer Joel Silver tells IESB that he's got scribes Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland working on a new "Wonder Woman" script.

The pair penned a WW2-set "Wonder Woman" script that WB snatched up last year. That won't be used however, the pair instead came up with a whole new storyline and setting.

Originally shying away from an origin story, Silver has reconsidered and says they are really looking into a story involving Paradise Island and her background.

As for who will direct? Silver did say that Andy Wachowski had an idea on how to open the Wonder Woman film but wouldn't comment further.

"When you see the film, you’ll realise there was no space for singing in my character. I don’t think it’s important to have songs to make your presence felt. Amitabh Bachchan didn’t sing in ’Zanjeer’. Neither did Rani Mukerji in ’Black’," Sameera told .

Sameera has tapped her comic vein in "Race"."Anil Kapoor and I had done something very serious in our earlier film ’Musafir’. Here we just let ourselves go. I had never done comedy before."

But the film that finds Sameera immersed in a complete comic climate is Ashwini Dheer’s "123" in which the actress is paired with Paresh Rawal."So what if I’ve no song in ’Race’? I’ve an entire romantic duet with Paresh ji in ’123’. Our whole encounter is based on a comic misunderstanding. I learnt all there was to learn about comic timing from him.
"I’d have done the film just for the pleasure of learning so much about comedy from Paresh ji. But I also wanted to work with Ashwini Dheer. I’m a big fan of his sitcom ’Office Office’. Such straight-faced humour! That’s what he has brought into our film."

She debuted with "Maine Dil Tujhko Diya" in 2002 and after that she was seen mainly in glamorous roles, but now the actress is doing meatier roles. After her funny act in "123", she gets into the grim mode to play a Naxalite in Ananth Mahadevan’s "Red Alert".

Minutes after a “short, sharp and sweet” opening ceremony on Friday to launch the inaugural edition of the Twenty20 tournament, the organisers are planning to switch off the floodlights at the Chinnaswamy Stadium before the first match between Dravid’s Bangalore Royal Challengers, the hosts, and Ganguly’s Kolkata Knight Riders, the visitors, which begins at 20.00 local time. “Then, the spotlights will come on, and focus on the two skippers as they walk out for the toss,” Charu Sharma, the Royal Challengers’ chief executive, told Cricinfo.

“We are pushing to have the toss under spotlights and are waiting for permission from local authorities, considering the number of people who will be there at the stadium when the lights will be switched off. This is something that has not really been tried before,” he said.
